RIO GRANDE AGROECOLÓGICO SEMINAR
The Rio Grande Agroecological Seminar took place on July 29, at the Administrative Center of Porto Alegre. The event, with a audiance of around 200 people, discussed the Plan and the Policies of Agroecology and Organic Production of Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the organizers, the State Plan of Agroecology and Organic Production (PLEAPO / RS) is the first plan in the state that focuses on agroecology and organic production and was built by a management committee made up of about 40 institutions, including state secretariats, federal government, universities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Coordinated by the Secretariat of Rural Development, Fisheries and Cooperatives (SDR), the plan foresees actions and goals to promote the production and consumption of healthy foods, the use and conservation of agro biodiversity, and ecologically based research, in a transversal way.
The Rio Grande Agroecological proposes actions for incentvating young women protagonism in Organic Production, stimulating the exchange of creole seeds and control the use of pesticides in the surroundings of organic production centers.
PLEAPO is a package of actions implemented from 2016 to 2019 to meet the principles of sustainable development, preserve and maintain the ecology with social inclusion, security and sovereignty, and agricultural, biological, territorial, landscape and cultural food. In Rio Grande do Sul, production exceeds 10 thousand hectares and is about 1.2 million barrels produced with proven organic quality.
