CAGE FREE EGGS

The GPA Group – which sells eggs of the Taeq brand – launched in July in Brazil common eggs from cage free hens. The company guarantees that by 2025 the entire conventional line will be in this new category, meeting a worldwide trend of consumers seeking products from animals raised with quality of life and good welfare.

For IBEM president Angela Escosteguy, it was an important step in animal welfare. “They are not organic, so there is no difference in product quality for consumers, but it represents a breakthrough in terms of animal welfare,” she said. Although still inside barns, chickens can walk, sleep on perches and perform nesting, and these of course are better conditions compared to birds that spend their entire lives inside a cage. “Ethical production and consumption deserve all the support,” she added.
