WHAT WE DO / WHO WE ARE

The Welfare Institute – IBEM is a non-profit civil organization, constituted in 2001, formed by an interdisciplinary group of people in activity for over 20 years in educational, cultural, or social actions. IBEM’s objective is to improve the quality of life of people and animals, along with preserving the planet.

MISSION AND VISION

Our Mission is to promote the quality of life of human beings and animals, as well as the planet’s preservation, through actions related with education, sustainability, and social responsibility. Our Vision is to help build a more just, harmonious, happy, and environmentally sustainable society.

Board

Angela Escosteguy

Founding partner and President of IBEM

Founding Partner and President of IBEM, graduated as Veterinarian from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, with a Master’s Degree in Food Sciences from the Institut National Agronomique Paris- Grignon/France. Specialized in Organic Animal Husbandry and in Food Quality, with experience in training and qualifying people in Brazil and abroad. She also acts in the formation and development of communication networks. At IBEM, she was a mentor and coordinator of the Art and Solidarity and Didactic Garden Projects and is currently the General Coordinator of Courses and of the educational material editing. She is the coordinator of the Organic Livestock Commission of the Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine / Rio Grande do Sul. At the international level, she is a member of the IAHA-Alliance for Livestock, IFOAM- International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements and IFOAM Latin America.

Francisco E. Augstburger

Vice president

Graduated in International Relations from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing. He currently studies Portuguese/German Languages at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. English teacher since 2017 and German teacher at UFRGS since 2023, he is also Master in Letters (Theory of Literature) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul.

Antônio Vicente Dias

Veterinarian, graduated from the University of Luanda/Angola, specialized in Bubalinoculture by the Instituto Sperimentale per la Zootecnia di Roma in Rome, Italy, and in Homeopathy by the Alfredo Soares da Cunha Homeopathic Institute, in Salvador, Bahia.

Alcy José Cheuiche

Graduated as Veterinarian from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Received Master’s degree in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Paris. Was professor of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at UFRGS. He is also a writer.

Antonio Carlos Sperb Paganelli

Agronomic Engineer, graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, specialized in Management of Cooperatives (ESCOOP).

Amanda Nascimento da Silva

Biologist, graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, specialized in Environmental Education by the Federal University of Santa Maria, and an MBA in Project Management by the Fundação Getúlio Vargas.

Ana Maria de Andrade Mitidiero

Veterinarian, graduated from the Fundação de Ensino e Tecnologia de Alfenas, specialized in Homeopathy by the Francios Lamasson Institute, and Master’s degree in Agro-ecosystems from the Federal University of Santa Catarina.

Angela Mocellim

Veterinarian, graduated from the Federal Rural University of Amazônia, specialized in Meat Technology by ITAL-SP and extension agent of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of Pará (EMATER-PA), in Santarém.

Carlos Roberto Vieira da Cunha

Veterinarian, graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), specialized in Small Ruminant Diseases (ABEAS/UFRGS). Rural extension agent of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of Rio Grande do Sul (EMATER-RS).

Eduardo Antunes Dias

Veterinarian, graduated from the Federal University of Pelotas, with Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Animal Reproduction from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the University of São Paulo. Professor of the licentiateship program in Field Education and bachelor’s program in Agroecology at UFRGS.

Fabíola Fernandes Schwartz

Veterinarian, graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the University of São Paulo, Master’s degree in Agroecology and Rural Development from the Federal University of São Carlos. Specialized in Homeopathy from the Brazilian Institute of Homeopathic Studies (SP) and in Health Inspection from the Secretariat of Health of Paraná.

Fernando Tenório Filho

Graduated in Veterinary Medicine and received licentiateship in Agrarian Sciences from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco – UFRPE. Received doctorate degree in Animal Reproduction from the same institution. Researcher and extension agent of the Agronomic Institute of Pernambuco (IPA).

Francisco Augstburger

Vice-presidente

Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the Superior School of Advertising and Marketing (ESPM-Sul), was a Scientific Initiation Project scholar investigating the topic of Brazilian energy security. Worked as a volunteer in IBEM’s social actions.

Francisco dos Santos

Professor of the Publicity and Advertising program at UniRitter and doctoral student of the Graduate Program in Communication and Information, having written his master’s thesis entitled “Environmental Sustainability in Advertising: From Images to Myths in Persuasive Communication.” Worked as a volunteer in IBEM’s social actions.

Gelcira Telles

Graduated in journalism from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos and in environmental education from the Federal University of Santa Maria. Works independently with animal protection. Served as volunteer in IBEM’s social actions.

Glauco Schulz

Founding Partner of IBEM, graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Federal University of Pelotas, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Agribusiness from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Professor of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at UFRGS, researches agro-industrial systems, agribusiness management, competitive analysis of productive chains, environmental indicators of organic agricultural production systems, and markets and trade of organic products.

Ilza Maria Tourinho Girardi

Graduada em Comunicação Social/Jornalismo pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, possui Mestrado em Comunicação pela Universidade Metodista de São Paulo e Doutorado em Ciências da Comunicação pela Universidade de São Paulo É professora titular na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Atua com ênfase em Jornalismo Ambiental, Comunicação e Educação Ambiental, Comunicação e Cidadania e Teorias da Comunicação. Coordena o Núcleo de Comunicação Comunitária da Fabico e desenvolve projetos na área de educomunicação socioambiental voltados para estudantes e professores de escolas públicas e associações comunitárias. É líder do grupo de pesquisa em Jornalismo Ambiental

Founding Partner of IBEM, is graduated in Public Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS). Voluntarily collaborates with IBEM in social actions.

Luiza Christina Schafer

Graduated as zootechnician from the Federal University of Santa Maria, specialized in Environmental Management and Auditing (FUNIBER).

Magnólia Silva

Graduada em Agronomia pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1989) com mestrado em Fitotecnia - Departamento de Horticultura e Silvicultura (1994) e doutorado em Agronomia (Horticultura) pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2003). Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Tem experiência na área de Agronomia, com ênfase em Manejo e Tratos Culturais de espécies hortícolas, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: sistema orgânico de produção de espécies hortícolas e recursos genéticos de espécies hortícolas.

Agronomic Engineer, graduated from the Federal University of Pelotas, Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the Graduate Program in Zootechnics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Assistant professor of the Agroecology program at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), São Lourenço do Sul campus.

Veterinarian, graduated from the Lutheran University of Brazil, specialized in Products of Animal Origin by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

Nelton Antônio Menezes

Veterinarian, graduated from the Federal University of Pelotas, Master’s degree in Veterinary Sciences (emphasis on Parisitology) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and specialized in Homeopathy by the Benoit Mure Homeopathic Foundation/Catarinense Association of Medicine.

Patrícia Gallindo Carrazzoni

Graduated in Veterinary Medicine and received licentiateship in Agrarian Sciences from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco - UFRPE. Specialized in Clinical Pathology by São Paulo State University (UNESP) – Jaboticaba campus (SP). Received Doctorate degree in Animal Sanity from UFRPE.

Yhevelin Serrano Guerin

Graduated in Publicity and Marketing with Master in Communication by the Federal University of RGS (UFRGS) and Doctorate in Regional Development by UNISC. Teacher in UNISC in Planning and Campaigns area acting also in market research and rural development.
